Residential Dog Training - from 16 weeks upwards …

Everyone knows how important it is to have an obedient dog but unfortunately not everyone finds it easy or simply has the time. Thedogman offers a flexible, adaptive and positive reward based training program that will suit both dog and owner.

The client must be aware that many things affect and influence canine learning such as genetics, health, age, past experience, hormones, motivation, distractions and of course the way it is trained. Most types of dogs are suitable for residential training but most importantly the dog should be friendly with a responsive disposition. Thedogman advises his clients that it best to teach their dogs themselves under the careful guidance of a professional trainer.

A dog is an individual and therefore the trainer will ensure the tuition program demonstrates flexibility based on the dog’s breed and genetic make up. It is vital that Thedogman understands the dog and owner and therefore a one day assessment must take place so that a training plan can be agreed. It is also important that the client’s expectations are realistic and achievable.

The following disciplines are available; loose lead walking, formal walk to heel on/off lead including change of direction, recall, sit and stay, down and stay.

Each discipline will have its own individual training plan which will be used to monitor the steady development of each stage. There are targets to achieve throughout the plan; however progression should be made at the dog’s rate of learning. Thedogman will focus on a percentage of successive approximation before moving on to teach the following behaviour. If the targets are not achieved then the criteria will be reduced.

During the training, the owner will be kept updated as to the progress made. At the conclusion the training logs are viewed and an explanation will be given on how to communicate the rules and maintain the taught behaviours. Continuation training is highly recommended.

The training takes place within Thedogman’s family home and grounds of Quintessential Quarters, a small and exclusive boarding kennels, which offers the ultimate in accommodation and security for the resident student. Each state of the art kennel unit has a large sleeping area and extra large, tiled, undercover run. All have a thermostatically controlled heating and humidification system. Each area is exclusive to each family, meaning that your dog has its own individual kennel. All residential dogs also have regular daily access to a secure dog adventure playground, built especially for dog training, stimulation and enrichment.

Each prospective resident dog must be fully vaccinated including kennel cough, regularly wormed and free from illness. If in any doubt then please consult your Veterinary Practice.
